Two More Conference Champions Crowned: NCAA Review for Mar 3

Two major conference regular season title races ended last night in a small, yet competitive NCAA basketball schedule. There were only three games that involved Top 25 games, but each game was highly competitive and tightly contested.

(14) Baylor Bears 59 (22-8)
Texas Longhorns 61 (18-12)
Final – OT

Baylor could not overcome in state rival Texas last night. Texas had six blocks from Myles Turner and DeMarcus Holland led the team with 12 points off the bench.  Baylor only shot 33.3% from the field, but leading scorer Taurean Prince had 17 points and seven rebounds. Baylor ends their Big 12 slate against Texas Tech while Texas ends their schedule with Kansas State.

Syracuse Orange 47 (18-12)
Final

Virginia clinched their second consecutive ACC title, beating Syracuse last night to wrap up their title season. Virginia overcame a 8:15 scoring drought to begin the game and 20 turnovers, holding Syracuse to 33.3% shooting and getting 17 points from Anthony Gill. Syracuse had 14 points from Trevor Cooney but only shot 4-19 from three point range. Syracuse finishes their ACC schedule against NC State in a battle of NCAA tournament hopefuls and Virginia finishes their ACC slate against Louisville.

(17) Iowa State Cyclones 77 (21-8)
Final

In one of the best games of the season, Iowa State had a 22-0 run in the second half to overcome a 20 point deficit against Oklahoma, wrapping up a 10th consecutive Big 12 regular season championship for Kansas. Georges Niang had 23 points for Iowa State and the Cyclones outscored the Sooners 28-7 off the bench. Oklahoma was boosted by a game-high 26 points from Buddy Hield, but only shot 35.5% from the field. Oklahoma wraps up their Big 12 schedule against Kansas and Iowa State finishes their Big 12 schedule against TCU.
