Los Angeles Galaxy Are Building A Super Team For The 2018 MLS Season

No team in the MLS last season was more disappointing than Los Angeles Galaxy.

Despite having a star-studded roster with quality players on both ends of the pitch, the Galaxy never got it going. In fact, the team struggled so much that they finished the regular season dead last in the Western Conference. Not only they were the worst team in the entire league with 32 points and just eight wins in 34 games. The squad needed an overhaul during the offseason.

That’s exactly what the management is doing during the offseason. They parted ways with several veteran players such as Ashley Cole and Jermaine Jones, and are focused on adding talented, experienced players who can lift the team from worst to first in 2018. One of the most recent moves was acquiring David Bingham from with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Bingham is not the only player they have acquired, though. They also landed Rolf Feltscher, a Venezuelan left-back who has plenty of international experience as well as a few stints in Europe, and Jörgen Skjelvik, a central defender who should bolster the team’s depth at the back. Skjelvik comes from Norwegian side Rosenborg and features a decent amount of international experience.

Those two players are not enough to turn the franchise around, but it’s a solid start. It’s not like the Galaxy need a lot of help on the attacking end, though. They have Gyasi Zardes, Giovani dos Santos, Emmanuel Boateng, and Romain Alessandrini. And the presence of Jonathan dos Santos in midfield should only help the side, as the Mexico international improved as the season went on.

Los Angeles still need to address several positions. They should acquire at least two more midfielders, as well as one attacker to increase the depth of the side. But it’s still December, so we are roughly three months away from the start of the regular season. Time is on their side, but the franchise is already showing signs of progress both on and off the pitch.

They could be on the verge of becoming the league’s next super team with a few more quality signings. And they’re not going to stop until they can bring the franchise back to the respectability levels they had in the past.
