Michy Batshuayi has done it again, people. The Belgian striker is quickly becoming a deadly scorer for Borussia Dortmund, and he is taking advantage of every chance he has with the Bundesliga giants.
Batshuayi has three goals in his first two Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund and added two more during Thursday’s UEFA Europa League tie against Atalanta. The Belgian netted the game-winner on stoppage time against the Serie A, and once again proved to be deadly upfront when given enough chances.
Simple math indicates us that Batshuayi has five goals in just three matches for Dortmund across all competitions. But the reality tells us much more about the former Chelsea striker. He is exactly the same kind of player The Blues signed from Marseille before the start of the 2016-17 season: a deadly, proven goalscorer who can find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
What should Batshuayi do with his future?
The thing is – will he have enough playing time at Chelsea? The Blues made a long-term commitment to Alvaro Morata, and also signed Olivier Giroud until the end of the 2018-19 season. That leaves Batshuayi as the team’s third striker option. We are not even counting Tammy Abraham, who will return to the club at the end of the season and looks like the team’s striker for the long-term scenario. In other words, it seems Batshuayi will never have the chance he is wishing for at Chelsea.
That leaves two alternatives here. One, he can return and fight for his spot with The Blues but that would be to return to what was happening earlier this season. He would return to the secondary role he previously had, and that’s not what he needs. Especially after the loan spell, he is having with Dortmund. Batshuayi needs to be in a place where he is wanted. and BVB offers him exactly that.

The plan is simple, then. Even though the current loan deal does not have a buy-in option, Dortmund should explore all alternatives to keep the Belgian star with the team on a long-term deal. Batshuayi looks happy, Dortmund are happy, and Chelsea would get profit out a player they might never feature on a full-time role.
Will they pull the trigger? Right now, it seems unlikely. But at the end of the season, we might have news about this.
